The history of Fort Tiracol goes back to the Portuguese era. People believe that the fort was built by Maratha rulers but eventually it fell into the hand of the Portuguese rulers, who worked on expanding the fort. The fort ended up becoming an important part of Portuguese maritime defenses till December 1961.
Today, the restored fort is home to a luxury hotel with breathtaking views of the waters of the Arabian Sea and the River Tiracol.
There are a few ways to reach the fort. One can take a ferry (operational during high tide days) from Querim beach, 42 km (26 mi) north of Panjim, to reach the fort or the other way is by road via Maharashtra. The fort is located at a short drive from Goa’s backpacking paradise — Arambol.
Fort Tiracol is an escape to serenity, and one should plan to visit this place to learn about the history & enjoy the stunning views of the water.
