This historic monument is named after the Goa Viceroy’s daughter Dona Paula de Menezes during colonial rule. Dona Paula was a very kind woman and she fell in love with a local fisherman of Goa and decided to marry him but her relationship was denied by her father and she fell off the cliff as a result. Today, locals share some haunted stories about Dona Paula and refer to this area as `lovers” paradise” of Goa.

Adding to the beauty is the vast stretch of beach with tall palm trees. Dona Paula Beach also is the meeting point of the Zuari and Mandovi Rivers making it a perfect place to click memorable pictures. Tourists visit this destination to see the whitewashed statue, commonly referred as the ‘Image of India’, portraying Mother India along with Young India. The beach hosts a lot of water sports activities as well as it is common to spot Bollywood personalities around this area.
